Termites in your home are a heart-sinking disaster. With all the rain we’ve gotten this year, they’ll be even worse than usual. They come in two varieties: subterranean and drywood. They both require termite control services to eradicate. We’ll focus on subterranean termite treatments in your home here.

Termites in Your Home

Subterranean termites are the more difficult of the two to eliminate because they build their colony underground. They construct mud tubes up your foundation to be able to access the wood in your home. These mud tubes help them stay hydrated on their way to eat the wood of your home.

Subterranean termites will focus on the softest wood first. This doesn’t just mean softwoods, but damaged and moist wood, too. If you have rain or flood damage, these are the most likely areas the termites will go to first – and it will serve to attract them and spur growth in their colony.

Termites can carve through a home quickly. They don’t like to be seen, so if you’re not looking for them, they can do extensive destruction out of sight. By the time most people notice them, there’s already substantial damage to their home. Given the rain we’ve had in the past year, it’s a very smart idea to have local termite control services do an inspection or even a Wood Destroying Insect report.

Subterranean Termite Treatments

Spot treatments are completely ineffective. Because subterranean termites nest underground, a spot treatment will only ever impact the termites you can see. There are far more under the home you won’t be able to reach of effect with spot treatments.

We use Termidor termite treatments. We don’t want to just get the termites feasting on your house. The queen will just make more. Termidor termite treatments contain termiticide ingredients that are brought back to the colony and the queen. This eliminates the colony from the inside out.

You cannot truly get rid of subterranean termites without destroying the queen and her colony. Subterranean termite treatments can accomplish this. Anything else is a delaying tactic at best. Contact Slug-A-Bug today for a free termite inspection.
