There are a few Florida scorpions that are referred to as a Florida striped scorpion. This could refer to the Florida bark scorpion, the Hentz striped scorpion, or the Guiana striped scorpion. Scorpions in Florida can be dangerous and will often enter a home at night, lurking in the bathtub or shower. If you’ve got scorpion problems, remember to be careful and check your shoes, clothes, and blankets regularly. Of course, this isn’t a fun way to live – you’ll need scorpion removal and real, sustained scorpion control to really address your problem.

The Florida Bark Scorpion can grow up to 4 inches in length. It’s reddish brown or black, with yellow legs. They’ll hide under bark, logs, or stones during the day. They can also climb, and on rare occasions have been known to fall near people from a tree.

The Hentz Striped Scorpion is slightly smaller, only up to 2.5 inches in length. They’re found across Florida, boasting dark brown bodies, dark stripes running its length, and pale green stripes underneath. It’ll seek out cover and prefers to stay hidden.

The Guiana Striped Scorpion hasn’t been found in Brevard County, thankfully. It’s up to 3 inches long and lighter in color.

Any of these scorpions might be referred to in passing as striped scorpions. None of these scorpions possesses a fatal sting, but they can still hurt and cause severe injury. Scorpion control is best achieved by removing areas where they might hide near the home. After all, if they’re hiding in bark or brush near the home, it’s a quick jaunt into your home at night.
