The Space Coast Marine Institute is a moderate-security residential facility for boys ages 14-18 who have committed crimes. They are referred to SCMI by the Department of Juvenile Justice. The mission of SCMI is to address the needs of youthful offenders by providing a scheduled curriculum of academic, vocational and mental health awareness activities. In addition to a personalized academic education, the daily schedule includes programs that build self-confidence and a greater understanding of the world around us. Over 1000 boys have participated in the program at SCMI, and approximately 70% have had no further negative contact with the criminal justice system. Compare that to the national average of 24% and see why we are so committed to these young men.
